Public Education Grants
In 1999, with support from Hazen, Baltimore ACORN organized over 600 parents and trained a core group of parent leaders to address school-level issues and to influence district-wide education policy. Baltimore Acorn was awarded a three-year renewal grant of $90,000 to launch an organizing and advocacy campaign focused on attracting and retaining qualified teachers, reducing class size, and implementing academic programs that challenge students and prepare them for college and careers. Baltimore ACORN is an affiliate of the National Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
