Youth Development Grants
SACT is a ten-year old non-denominational and bipartisan organization, representing many faiths, cultures, income levels and backgrounds. Two years ago, SACT held a Youth Leadership Day, in which over 200 young people developed a shared vision, prioritized concerns, and identified next steps. Five major themes emerged: schools, recreation, transportation, jobs, and safe and clean neighborhoods. Transportation was identified as the immediate priority. Subsequently, SACT launched Youth Acting Together (YAT) and established a citywide youth organizing committee and three local committees. SACT received a $30,000 grant to engage 30 youth leaders and wage campaigns around student transportation and school improvement.
